The sporty lacrosse cxs comes exclusively with the 3. 6-liter v6, along with a host of features and options designed to enhance its sporty character, yet it retains comfortable driving characteristics and the same fuel economy rating. completely redesigned for the 2010 model year, the lacrosse looks contemporary, elegant and refined. It's conservative but not conventional. There's an edge to it. It's a fresh take on traditional buick design, but it includes buick heritage cues, such as the waterfall front grille and the signature portholes. The portholes, however, have been moved from the traditional fender placement to the hood so as not to disturb the fluid body lines. The result is a sweeping, fluid exterior design that flows uninterrupted around the vehicle, with no disconnected lines. the interior has a finely detailed, high-quality character. Throughout the cabin are few straight lines and 90-degree joints, if any. Instead, surfaces and controls are rounded, coved, or arched. Real stitching is used to join seams of the seats, shifter boot and soft material used on the door panels and around the instruments. Chrome and wood trim are used judiciously, tastefully, and the materials in the headliner and upper parts of the cabin look and feel like premium material. Features like remote starting, rear-seat dvd and ice-blue led interior lighting accents are available, along with in-dash navigation, heads-up display, bluetooth, and auxiliary audio input with usb port. onstar's automatic crash response and stabilitrak electronic stability control headline a full complement of active and passive safety features. All-wheel drive is available, improving capability in winter weather. we found the lacrosse relaxing to drive yet it will respond eagerly to driver input. The smooth ride of the current models is a big improvement over the pre-2010 models. All of this makes the lacrosse a compelling choice. the lacrosse can be configured for a wide range of customer priorities. Each model is specifically developed and tuned to emphasize qualities such as sport driving, road isolation, high mileage, or enhanced luxury. Viewed from the side, the profile is not unlike that of a sport-compact coupe, but the lacrosse is a roomy car, and bigger than it looks. A coefficient of drag (cd) of 0. 33 adds to the sleek effect and helps improve mileage and control wind noise. teams on three continents participated in the design. The chassis team, based in germany, adapted a version of the fwd/awd platform developed for the opel insignia, and the interior was designed in china. The exterior design team, based in north america, took on the responsibility for creating a fresh, new buick sheetmetal treatment. interiorthe lacrosse interior uses thoughtfully considered materials, based on a highly detailed design concept. The front space is framed by a low-and-away instrument panel, opening up the area for front seat occupants and creating a light, airy atmosphere. Flat, low-relief controls are clustered in an orderly, symmetrical center stack, leaving generous portions of the dash surround free and clean. The overall effect is to create a graceful, uncluttered cockpit. Styled air vents on either side of the navigation screen, which mimic the design of vintage buicks, have a quality feel and ample range of adjustment. It's a visually sophisticated way of lighting the cabin, quite unexpected and inviting. the interior design team was based in china, where buick cars are often purchased by owners who do not drive themselves, leading to special emphasis on interior detail and back seat accommodations. Rear legroom is generous, even with the front seats adjusted for taller drivers. A power rear sunshade is standard on the cxs. all models benefit from buick's quiettuning sound control initiatives. These include use of acoustic glass, triple door seals, acoustic mats and extensive use of sound-deadening materials. Engine and suspension noise and vibrations have been isolated through use of hydraulic bushings, covers and tuned air flow systems. lacrosse cx and cxl models are complemented with dark poplar wood appliques, while the cxs has more technical titanium-type square trim details. When passing, we saw the automatic transmission shift directly from 2000 rpm to 5000 rpm, on the way to 7000 rpm, accelerating smoothly. That meant we were exposed to oncoming traffic for a minimum amount of time. The engine does need to rev to make peak power, seeming to catch fire at 4500 rpm. It makes a pleasantly balanced, muted mechanical whir when revved, but otherwise runs very quietly. The 3. 6-liter v6 is rated at 280 hp and 259 lb-ft.

Mid-size performance, the buick way. introductiondespite its carefully cultivated conservative image, buick has a long history of building performance cars. But understand this: buick builds performance cars on its own terms. That's quick acceleration by any measure and particularly for a conservative-looking mid-size family sedan. Yet regal sacrifices none of the virtues that make buicks 'premium american motorcars.' those virtues include roominess, a smooth ride quality and a long list of features. lineuptwo models are available. Regal ls starts at $22,845. Gs retails for $26,095. the major distinction between the ls and gs lies beneath the hood. The ls is powered by a normally aspirated version of gm's ubiquitous 3800 series ii v6, rated at 195 horsepower and 220 pounds-feet of torque. The gs is motivated by the supercharged edition, with 240 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque. The gs also has 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with slightly more aggressive tires, and firmer suspension tuning. Created to commemorate buick's support for u. Olympic athletes, the olympic edition regal comes only in gold metallic, silver metallic, or graphite metallic, with exclusive sandrift lower body panels. The olympic logo on tail lamps and floor mats, and storm gray accents for the grille and wheel centers further distinguish this special regal. Taupe leather will be the only available interior. These two share the same platform (along with the pontiac grand prix and oldsmobile intrigue). Aside from basic dimensions, however, they are as much alike as milk and champagne. regal looks clean, nicely proportioned and free of excessive bright trim. Its s-curved belt line and full-width tail lights confirm its buick identity, even though its horizontal-line grille departs from buick tradition. For 2001, both models will have the body-color grille, black trim, and body-color buick lettering on the rear bumper. Also new for 2001 is an escape handle in the trunk, plus additional insulation in the rear wheel houses. interiorthe regal is the sportiest of the buicks, a trait that's reflected inside. Although the controls and instrument panel design look tame compared to a pontiac grand prix, it's pretty daring by buick standards. An attractive cowling curves over the instrument panel and the dashboard, in turn, sweeps nicely into the door panels. major instruments are readily visible through a large, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Regal's seats are more comfortable for long trips than those in the pontiac, however. On ls as well as gs, they are six-way power adjustable. Heated outside mirrors are standard on all regals. Optional heated front seats 225) would be a welcome addition in the depths of a northern winter. part of gm's formula for winning the mid-size sedan wars is packing in more comfort and convenience features than its target competitors, and the regal is rolling proof of this. Just hitting the highlights, the regal ls comes equipped with dual-zone air conditioning; excellent audio; power windows, mirrors and door locks; antilock brakes (abs) and low-speed traction control. the gs is loaded. Low pressure is the prime cause of reduced tire life and can substantially reduce traction, particularly on wet pavement. interior room is a major asset of the regal. Unlike many mid-size cars, three adults can sit back there comfortably, without territorial squabbles or contortions, and they can do so for extended periods. The center seating position isn't quite as comfortable as the outboard spots, and it lacks a three-point belt, but in general, the regal shames its import competition for rear-seat roominess. the rear seat splits and folds down to make hauling long items such as skis and fishing rods easier and more convenient. An integrated child safety seat is optional. Speaking of safety, the regal stacks up as contemporary, though not outstanding. Anti-lock brakes and traction control come standard. It has the required dual front airbags. A side-impact air bag for the driver's seat is standard on gs and on leather-trimmed ls models, but is not available for the passenger side. driving impressionthanks to its excellent torque, the 3800 series ii v6 that comes in the regal ls can haul this big sedan out of the blocks in a hurry. This is an excellent engine and it delivers 200 horsepower. The series ii v6 has stood the test of time, but has also been refined over the years and is widely used by general motors. Projected fuel economy is 20/29 miles per gallon city/highway. though it's a good engine, the normally aspirated 3800 pales next to its supercharged counterpart in the regal gs. Supercharging adds 40 horsepower to the output of the 3800 v6, but the bigger benefit comes in the form of mass quantities of torque. While the regal ls comes with 225 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm, the gs boasts 280 pounds-feet at a more useful 3600 rpm. Because the regal gs is so quiet, its power means that it requires some extra attention to the speedometer as the supercharged v6 quickly tows the regal beyond legal speed limits. On the other hand, its ride quality is distinctly smoother and more compliant. And it does handle well. The front springs and front stabilizer are stiffer, while a rear stabilizer bar is added. Rear shock absorbers and front struts are tuned for higher dampening rates for more body control. As a result, the steering is accurate and exceptionally quick. likewise, braking performance is a definite cut above, with good control and pedal feel.
